Spring Nature Activities for Early Years Spring is slowly making its way to us. The flowers are starting to bloom, new life can be seen in the fields and the weather is perking up. This gives you the perfect opportunity to get outdoors with the kids and take part in some spring activities.
At Parkfield Nursery , this month’s blog looks at Early Years spring activities. For information, call us in Carlisle on 01228 543034 .
Colour Hunt As spring awakens our parks and gardens become an abundance of colour. This can become the perfect opportunity for you to get your little ones outside.
Make yourselves a colour chart and go out for a colour hunt. How many colours can you find when you are out? You could take photos of what you have found and make your own colour book.
Planting & Growing An opportunity for you and your family to enjoy some time in the garden or create tubs in the house or a visit to your local garden centre. Plant some seeds together or young plants and talk about what you might need to look after them. Sit back and watch them grow.
Sensory Garden These can be created outside or inside using a large seedling tray. Children love to get their hands dirty so you can use a variety of natural resources to create these. Mud, pebbles, bark, leaves, sticks. When out taking a walk, you might come across many of these materials.
A great compliment to your sensory garden would be posts of herbs which can be bought at most supermarkets and garden centres. The smell will be wonderful and can also be used in any cooking that you do with your children.
Rock Art Yet another opportunity for you and your family to get outside and enjoy spring as nature begins to awaken. A lovely walk down by the river or seaside can give you the opportunity to collect stones and rocks of different sizes, colours and shapes.
Once returned home that’s the time to get out your paints, pens, glue and any other craft materials and get creative.
All of the activities can waken all of our senses ready for our warm sunny days.
