Reading In Nursery Storytime is always an enjoyable experience and can benefit your child in many ways. It can enhance communication skills and basic speech skills, encourage imagination and more. The most important thing it does is offers an opportunity for you to spend some quality time with your child. At Parkfield Nursery , we encourage parents to make reading an everyday part of life for their child. Reading is essential in education and for your child’s future, which is why we have made a list of ways to encourage your child to read. Every day we will read with the children on a 1-1 basis or small groups. We will often talk about the pictures in the books as well as tell the actual story. We like to use props when telling stories which we leave for the children to use so that they are able to retell the story to each other without adult interaction.
Read To/With Your Child Reading aloud to your child for at least 30 minutes a day stimulates their imagination and helps them to develop language and listening skills. When the rhythm of language becomes an everyday part of your child’s life, learning to read will come naturally.
On top of that, reading with your child leads to special times and enables you to bond. Find a time that works for you, sit together and enjoy the moment!
Create A Story Sack We use story sacks in nursery and they are a great way of making a story more fun. These are designed to create more learning experiences and make them more enjoyable. It can be made from any large bag or pillowcase, with a storybook as the focus, with a selection of related objects and activities.
